About Us

About Drift Prairie Builders
At Drift Prairie Builders, we believe a house should be more than just four walls — it should reflect the care, craftsmanship, and integrity of the people who built it. Founded by two hardworking craftsmen from North Dakota’s Drift Prairie region, our business is rooted in rural values, honest work, and a commitment to doing the job right.
We offer full-service residential and light commercial construction, with years of hands-on experience across all phases of building — from roofing and siding to bathroom remodels, full renovations, and custom new builds. We’re always expanding our skills and services, but our pride in quality craftsmanship has been there from the start.
We take the time to listen, work hard to understand your goals, and deliver thoughtful, durable results that respect your timeline and your budget. Whether you’re building something new or breathing life into an existing space, Drift Prairie Builders is here to help you make it home.

Raised in rural North Dakota, we build with the same respect and work ethic we grew up with.
Follow-Through Matters
We show up early, stay late, and do the job right — because that’s how we’d want it done.

Meet the Owners

Robert Storbeck
Co-Owner
Robert grew up in Oriska and now lives in Kathryn with his girlfriend, Rachel, his son, Lane, and their two Cowboy Corgis, Wit and Ren. He’s also a proud dad to his daughter, Madisen (Dom), and an even prouder grandpa to his grandson, Kalan.
Before teaming up with Tate to form Drift Prairie Builders, Robert ran R2 Construction, where he built everything from pole barns to shops, as well as a reputation for doing things the right way, not the rushed way. These days, he’s shifting gears toward custom homebuilding, bringing his sharp eye for detail with him. (Yes, he’s the guy who notices when wood grain or trim lines don’t match.)
When he’s not on the job, Robert loves to be out in the shop, on the golf course, or spending time doing anything with family. He’s all about creating homes that fit real life — where boots go by the door and stories are told at the table.

Tate Smith
Co-Owner
Tate hails from Litchville, ND, where hard work, rodeo dust, and fishing stories run deep. He lives with his wife Jenna and their two sons, Soren and Rhett.
Before Drift Prairie Builders, Tate owned and operated Tate Smith Construction. He specialized in roofing and earned a reputation for clean lines, a solid sense of urgency, and craftsmanship that built trust — and word-of-mouth referrals — across the region. While he has spent years working on roofs, these days he’s more focused on full-home builds and custom work that showcases his skills from the ground up.
Outside of work, you’ll find Tate chasing fish, swinging clubs, and caring for his family. He builds the way he rode bulls – with grit, focus, and the kind of steady hands that only come from holding on tight and never backing down.
